Two fifths of your negative feedback is invisible

Forty-one percent of negative customer feedback is invisible to anyone filtering by star rating.

Across 290 negative records from 67 Oregon builders and remodelers, 120 were qualified recommendations: four star reviews, or criticisms embedded inside otherwise positive ones. A typical example:

"I would recommend for the quality of the final product. I would not recommend because of the lack of transparency regarding scheduling."

That hidden two fifths is also the most operationally precise feedback a builder gets. A furious one star reviewer vents. A happy but qualified client explains exactly what went wrong and where.

A builder monitoring reputation by star threshold is missing the early warnings, and specifically the ones that name the fix. The pattern repeats across the corpus: communication is the most common complaint in the market, and warranty response is the most damaging. Both show up in qualified reviews long before they show up in one star reviews or formal complaints.

The practical move is not more review monitoring. It is an operation that captures client friction while the job is running, so the qualified review never gets written.
